Freshman sharpshooter Daphne Williams hit five 3-pointers to lead Alabama State to a thrilling 60-59 win over Stillman.
The game was in doubt until the very end. Lady Hornet center Danielle Sanders was fouled with 10 seconds remaining. With her team trailing by one, the senior calmly walked to the free-throw line and sunk two shots to put ASU ahead. Stillman's Vancherika Mitchell, who'd already scored 17 points, barely missed a jump shot, and a put back wouldn't fall as the horn sounded, ending the game.
Williams finished with a career-high 25 points, including 16 in the first half. Assunta Fulgham tallied 14 points and Sanders added 11.
Slybrena Johnson was second in scoring for Stillman (2-4), with 15 points.
ASU (3-1) has several days off before a tough road trip to face the University of Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati.
