Lady Hornets Defeat Mississippi Valley for Fifth Straight Win

ITTA BENA, Miss. - Shantae Robinson scored 21 points had four steals and three assists and Latille Ross scored 16 points in 25 minutes off the bench for Alabama State, which defeated Mississippi Valley 65-62 in a battle of second place teams.

The win was the fifth straight for the Lady Hornets (9-9, 7-3), who are back at.500 overall and are now just one game behind Southern for first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Lady Hornets trailed by as many as eight points in the first half but went into the locker room facing only a 31-28 deficit. Bama State trailed by four halfway through the final period but used a 16-5 run over a four-minute stretch to take a 57-50 advantage with four minutes remaining.

ASU held that seven-point lead with two minutes left but Mississippi Valley made a furious run, cutting the Lady Hornets lead to one with 21 seconds remaining. L'Teisha Holloway would knock down two free throws on the ensuing possession to push the Bama State lead back to three, then Valley's Karmethia Mazique missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer as time expired.

The Lady Hornets are back in action Monday when they travel to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
