Hornets get One-Hit at Jacksonville State

April 19, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jacksonville State roughed up Alabama State starting pitcher Jauquin Respress, banging out eight runs in the first two innings en route to a 12-1 win for the Gamecocks. The loss was the sixth straight for the Hornets (10-25) and eighth consecutive on the road.

John Stevens led off the game with a double against JSU starter Clark Jinks. He scored to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage but that would be all for the Bama State offense as Jinks and the Gamecocks bullpen held the Hornets hitless through the rest of the game.

Alabama State gets back into Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday with a weekend series against Mississippi Valley State.
