Final Stats
ALCORN STATE, Miss. -
Alabama State may have one of the best pitchers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in Josh Froneberger.
That may not have been more apparent than it was this weekend as ASU won the opener of a three-game set, 5-3, against Eastern Division foe Alcorn State.
Froneberger tossed his fifth complete game of the season in game one of the series, allowing only five hits and keeping the Braves off the scoreboard after the third inning. His eight strikeouts increased his league-leading total to 77 and gave the ASU offense enough time to come through in the end.
Down 3-1 in the fourth, Travis Johnson belted a two-run homer to tie the score. A two-out double by Selmon Pearson scored John Stevens in the top of the seventh and Furquan Shamsud-Din followed with a RBI single off Alcorn State reliever Matt Finch to give ASU the lead. Froneberger shut the Braves down in order in the bottom of the frame to earn his fifth win of the season.
