Hornets Come-from-Behind to Beat Grambling State

April 4, 2006

Final Stats

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After blowing a six-run lead, Alabama State got a little help from Grambling State to post a 9-8 win over the Tigers at Paterson Field.

Anthony Hall drove in the winning run off Tigers' reliever Branden Waters in the bottom of the seventh for the Hornets (10-19) but it was the GSU defense that set up his heroics. Joshua Clemons reached second when GSU right fielder Marvin Mercer dropped a routine fly ball. He would score on two wild pitches. John Stevens would walk and Jake Paramore was hit by a pitch before Hall ripped a single to left for the Hornets' fifth win in their last at-bat.

The Hornet offense started in high gear, racking up six runs in the first inning. Selmon Pearson's RBI single got ASU on the board, but Josh Clemons' bases loaded triple was the big blow of the inning. Josh Froneberger followed Clemons' with a triple of his own, giving ASU a seemingly comfortable lead.

However, Grambling would get back into the game with five runs in the fourth inning. The Tigers later took an 8-7 lead on Mercer's two-run homer in the top of the seventh off winning pitcher JaMarlon Ford (1-1).
