Lady Hornets Lose Touch and Fall to Alcorn State

Jan. 23, 2007

Final Stats

Everything pretty much went as planned for the Alabama State Lady Hornets for the first 30 minutes of their game against Alcorn State Monday night. They led 39-32 by forcing the Lady Braves into turnovers and bad shots - typical defense from a team coached by Freda Freeman-Jackson.

Then, something just happened.

Alcorn started having success going inside, and the Lady Hornets simply couldn't make any shots. The result was an 18-0 Alcorn run and a 50-39 loss.

ASU missed 12 straight shots, committed 11 turnovers and didn't score a single point in the last 10:26 of the game.

ASU had 32 turnovers for the game, and shot only 23% in the second half.

Alcorn (10-8, 6-2 SWAC) was led by Shawntawnee Collins' 17 points.

Assunta Fulgham was the only Lady Hornet in double figures with 10 points. Essence Butler scored 9 and L'Teisha Holloway scored eight, as she played only 18 minutes due to foul trouble.

ASU (5-13, 2-5 SWAC) will try to rebound when they play at Prairie View on Saturday night.
