Alabama State opened the 2007-08 basketball season in style with a 90-72 win over Paul Quinn in the SMU Tip Off Classic in Dallas, Texas.
The Hornets started strong and built a 44-32 halftime lead.
ASU outshot PQC from the outside, hitting six three-pointers compared to only three made by their opponents.
Still, it was a dominant inside presence that carried ASU to the win.
Brandon Gordon had 16 points and 8 rebounds in his Hornet debut. Andrew Hayles and Chief Kickingstallionsims had 14 points each. Richard Lott 13 points and Joel Bosh's 10 gave the Hornets five players in double figures.
The Hornets also outrebounded PQC 55-35 for the game.
ASU (1-0) will face tournament host SMU on Sunday.
