Final Stats
Winston Salem, N.C. -
Behind their best defensive performance of the season, the Alabama State Lady Hornets beat Winston-Salem State 50-35 Saturday afternoon.
ASU had lost four straight games coming into the match-up, but responded behind more solid performances from freshmen Erica Lumpkin and Tanika Jackson.
The game was tight early, until the Lady Hornets went on a 18-6 run to take a 23-16 lead at halftime.
The Lady Hornets had a fast start in the second half as Lumpkin hit back-to-back three pointers and Assunta Fulgham hit four straight points to give ASU a 15 point lead.
The margin would swell to as high as 18 as the Lady Hornets coasted to their third win of the year.
On the way to a team-high 13 points, Lumpkin drilled three total three point shots - giving her a SWAC-leading 30 already this season.
Jackson, leading the team in rebounding, had 13 boards - including ten on the defensive end.
Assunta Fulgham added 10 points for the Lady Hornets.
ASU (3-7) gets a well-deserved week-off before beginning conference play next Saturday at Grambling State.
