Montgomery, Ala. - Senior point guard Shantae Robinson hit a leaning jumper with 18 seconds remaining to lead Alabama State to a thrilling 63-60 win over Georgia State at the Joe L. Reed Acadome Friday night.

After a nip and tuck first 15 minutes, ASU's offense finally started to click.

Assunta Fulgham hit a free throw to break a 24-24 tie, igniting an 11-0 run by the Lady Hornets that featured a three-pointer by Erica Lumpkin and two jump shots from Airel Anderson.

The teams traded baskets over the final 90 seconds and ASU took a 40-29 lead to the lockerroom.

The second half started with Robinson hitting two shots in the lane to push the Lady Hornet margin to 44-29.

That was at the 19:29 mark in the second half, and unfortunately for ASU it would be the last time they would score in almost 9 minutes. In the meantime, GSU ran off 20 consecutive points to take a 49-44 lead.

"We had a big drought there," said ASU head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson. "I'm glad we were able to show some composure - especially from our young players - and fight back."

The Lady Hornets responded with a 10-0 run of their own to take the lead back at 54-49.

Still, ASU left the door open by missing free throws and committing key turnovers. GSU took advantage and pulled within two.

Later, GSU's Brittany Hollis hit a spinning jumper with 22 seconds remaining to tie the score at 60, and setting up Robinson's heroics.

"I'm really proud of Shantae," Freeman-Jackson said of the team' s only senior. "She got into foul trouble which helped them make their run, but she made some important plays to help us get this win tonight."

After a timeout, Robinson took the ball the length of the court, crossed over her defender, slid by another into the lane and ducked under GSU's center to drop in the game-winning basket.

The victory was ASU's second in a row and moved the Lady Hornets to 2-3 on the season. GSU dropped to 2-5.

Tanika Jackson led ASU with 16 and 9 rebounds. Erica Lumpkin scored 14, including 2 3-pointers to extend her streak to five games in a row with at least one 3-point shot.

Danyiell McKeller led the Panthers with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Hollins finished with 16, while Monica Mann chipped in 12.

The Lady Hornets are back in action on December 16 when they travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
