Lady Hornets Shoot Down A & M's Perfect Season Chase

Feb. 11, 2007

Final Stats

Montgomery, Ala. - Freda Freeman-Jackson entered Saturday's match up with Alabama A & M feeling good about her young Lady Hornets. After winning only three of their first eight SWAC games, they'd won three in a row. But A & M was sitting atop the conference with a perfect 11-0 mark and showing no signs of slowing down.

But with relentless defense and uncharacteristically good shooting, `Bama State upset the Lady Bulldogs 76-62 and put some suspense back into the conference regular season race.

Things didn't look good early for ASU. A & M built a 12 point first half lead based on their trademark pressure defense and balanced offensive attack.

The Lady Hornets were able to close the first half with a 5-0 run, to get within seven and to give themselves a sense of momentum heading into the locker room.

A & M pushed the lead back to 12, before the Lady Hornets defense clamped down. ASU forced and converted eight turnovers over a three minute span to tie the game at 48. From there, it was all ASU.

The Lady Hornets ran off a 26-12 to close the game and to snap the A & M winning streak.

Assunta Fulgham's 15 points led four ASU players in double figures. Shantae Robinson had 14, and Essence Butler and Danielle Sanders had 12 each.

Tamika Green scored 15 to lead A & M (15-8, 11-1 SWAC). Christian Malone had 13 and Rebekkah Barnes had 10.

ASU (9-14, 6-6 SWAC) has the week off before traveling to play Southern on Saturday at 2 p.m.
