Final Stats
Montgomery, Ala. -
After a torrid start, Alabama State cooled off before falling to Prairie View 74-60 Saturday night.
The Hornets jumped out to an 11-4 start capped by a ferocious slam dunk by Miguel Morton. The Panthers responded by running off seven straight points to tie the game.
From there, Alabama State struggled mightily shooting the basketball, making only seven of their last 25 shots in the first half. Prairie View didn't have the same challenges as they shot 52% before in the first 20 minutes of the game, fueling a 42-33 halftime lead.
The Panthers built a 20-point second half bulge, producing 10 ASU turnovers and six steals with its full court press. From there, with the Hornets unable to make outside shots, Prairie Cruised to the win.
"We simply couldn't handle the pressure," said ASU head coach Lewis Jackson. "We knew how hard they play and we simply didn't match their intensity."
Chris Gaines and Brian Ezeh each scored 16 points to lead the Panthers (7-20, 5-10 SWAC).
Richard Lott led ASU (1-16, 7-8) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hornets wrap up their home schedule by hosting Texas Southern Monday night at 8 p.m.
