Lady Hornets Earn Second Straight SWAC Win

The Alabama State Lady Hornets shook off season long shooting struggles in an impressive 61-54 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday night.

ASU shot 50% in the first half and 47% for the game, their third highest totals his season. In perhaps their best conference outing thus far, the Lady Hornets trailed for only 23 seconds in the entire game.

Still, the game was tight throughout the first half, with ASU never managing more than an eight point lead. The Lady Hornets held a four point advantage heading into the locker room.

While ASU could never pull away, they held a 5 to 10 point lead the entire second half.

Danielle Sanders had the game of her career with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. She was part a dominating interior performance by the Lady Hornets', as they out rebounded the Golden Lions 37-30 and outscoring them 36-12 in the paint.

Freshman Jasmine Sanford scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Shantae Robinson added eight points and six assists.

Arica Green was the only Golden Lion (4-17, 4-6 SWAC) in double figures with 10 points.

Alabama State (7-14, 4-6 SWAC) earned their first back-to-conference win of the year. The Lady Hornets will look to add to their streak when the host Mississippi Valley State Monday night at 6 p.m.
