Final Stats
Alabama State lost a doubleheader to Alabama A & M on Sunday, 16-2 and 9-6.
In game one, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning.
Leadoff hitter Maveric Scott walked and took second on a wild pitch by ASU starter Marcell Fearon. Wilberto Flores promptly banged a single that drove in Scott. After Alton Ellison's single, Ledale Hayes tripled to center field, knocking in Flores and Ellison. Hayes came home on Kenneth Townsend's RBI fly out to left field. As the Bulldogs batted around, Scott came back to the plate and stroked two-RBI single.
The Hornets were never able to get back into the game, and fell 16-2,
In game two, Alabama A & M got off to another great start. The Bulldogs racked up three runs in the first, three more in the second and two in the third to stake a 8-0 lead. ASU scratched out a run in third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Still, ASU trailed 9-4 heading in to the seventh and final inning.
Selmon Pearon got things going with a single. Furquan Shamsud-Din followed with a walk. Alexandria Griggs doubled them both home with a double off the centerfield wall. But, that's all the Hornets would get, as Ty Childress came in to pitch and struck out the side.
ASU is back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Jacksonville State.
The Hornets host SWAC power Jackson State next Saturday and Sunday at Paterson Field.
