Final Stats
Alabama State opened their three game series with Alabama A & M with a dominant 11-2 win over the Bulldogs.
John Steven started it off with a single and then stole second. Freshman shortstop Will Johnson drilled a double, driving in Johnson. Furquan Shamsud-Din hit a double of his own, bringing Johnson home. After Zeb Hilburn walked, Neal Washington drove him and Shamsud-Din in with ASU's third double of the inning.
That's all the offense ASU starting pitcher Josh Froneberger needed. The preseason first team All-SWAC selection had got off to a slow start, but showed the form that made him one of the conference's top hurlers a year ago.
Froneberger went eight innings, and scattered six hits and gave up only one earned run. The junior right hander struck out a season high 10 batters.
Shamsud-Din padded ASU's lead with a 3-run home run, his first of the year. On the day, Shamsud-Din went 2-5 with 5 RBI and two runs scored.
Will Johnson added four hits, and Stevens and Selmon Pearson also had two hits each.
