Final Stats
Grambling, La. -
Shantae Robinson hasn't been as consistent or spectacular as Alabama State fans hoped she'd be this season. However, it seems she's saved her best for last as she had her single best game of the year in a 73-65 season ending win over Grambling.
Robinson racked up five of her game-high 11 assists in the first half, repeated setting her teammates up for easy lay ups off dribble penetration. Assunta Fulgham was the beneficiary of three of Robinson's assists, but the highlight was a spectacular bounce pass between two defenders that hit Essence Butler in stride on the way to the basket.
Butler's lay up tied the game at 30 with 3:07 to go in the first half.
Daphne Williams hit a deep 3-pointer on a Robinson assist, and Fulgham finished a beautifully executed screen and roll play to give ASU a 35-32 lead at the half.
In the second half, Robinson simply dominated the game. She scored 13 points and racked up five more assists as the Lady Hornets push the lead to as much as 10. ASU never trailed in the second half as they clinched the season series against Grambling.
Robinson finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. She was also 7-8 from the free throw line. Fulgham scored 18, L'Teisha Holloway had 12 and Williams added 11.
Dominique Headd led GSU (11-18, 7-11 SWAC) with 18 points and Lacey Cormier had 12, each playing their final home game for the Lady Tigers.
The win gives ASU (12-17, 9-9 SWAC) sixth place in the final conference standings, and locks the Lady Hornets into a date with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
