Final Stats

Lorman, MS - In a wild game featuring 10 lead changes and 12 ties, Alabama State made a furious second half rally to take an important 76-71 road win at Alcorn State Saturday night.

The Hornets trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half before ripping off an 11-3 run that closed the game to 39-36 at the half.

Alabama State tied the game in the first minute of the second half on a jumper by Chief Kickingstallionsims.

The teams would go back and forth, with neither squad being able to build a lead of more than four points until Brandon Brooks and Roland Fitch got going.

Brooks, a junior point guard, hit a driving lay-up - which was followed by two inside scores by freshman power forward Fitch. Brooks then drilled two free throws before slipping inside for another basket.

When Fitch powered for one more hoop, the two newcomers had combined for 12 straight points to give Alabama State a 71-66 lead with 1:14 remaining. The Hornets survived a few anxious moments for the win.

Andrew Hayles finished with 18 points to lead Alabama State. Brooks tallied 16, Fitch added a career-high 14 and Kickingstallionsims tossed in 10.

The conference-leading Hornets (9-7, 5-1 SWAC) travel to Southern to face former coach Rob Spivery and the Jaguars on Monday. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
