Alabama State, playing its first game without injured Tanika Jackson, fell 61-45 at Alcorn State Saturday evening.
The Lady Hornets kept the game close throughout the first half, and the score was tied 12-12 after the first 10 minutes. However, Alcorn went on a 10-1 run to build a 9 point lead. `Bama State's defense tightened and the Lady Hornets pulled within two as Erica Lumpkin nailed two three-pointers.
Alabama State trailed 28-23 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets would tied the game in the second half as LaShundreya Townsend knocked in a pair of free throws to knot the game at 39.
However, Alabama State injury woes would take their toll as the Lady Hornets tired a bit down the stretch and Alcorn State pulled away for the win.
Still, the difference in the game was the foul line as Alcorn State converted 27 of 34 attempts compared to 8 of only 15 attempts for Alabama State.
Despite playing only three guards, Alabama State committed a season-low eight turnovers.
Fulgham finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Lumpkin scored 12.
