Final Stats

Pine Bluff, Ark. - After having their seven-game win streak snapped on Saturday, Alabama State found themselves in a 32-30 halftime hole at Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday night.

However, the Hornets re-grouped in the locker room and exploded for a 69-51 win.

The Golden Lions built as much as an 8-point first half advantage before settling for their two point advantage at the half. UAPB held ASU to only 36% shooting, but only managed 37% themselves. Strong shooting from the three point (3-5) and free throw (9-11) line kept the Hornets close.

The second half was all ASU.

Trailing 36-35 with 17:16 to go, the Hornets turned up the defensive pressure and went on an 18-4 run to build a 13 point lead. UAPB went on a run of their own to cut the lead to 7, but Brandon Brooks hit back-to-back jumpers to push the lead back into double digits and secure the 9th SWAC win of the season for ASU.

In the second half, the Hornets held a 25-10 rebounding advantage, while also shooting 55% from the floor compared to 29% only for UAPB.

Brooks led ASU with 19 points. Andrew Hayles scored 18. Roland Fitch added 12 points and seven rebounds.

ASU (13-, 9-2) holds a two game lead in the SWAC standings. The Hornets head to Huntsville to take on archrival Alabama A & M this Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
