Final Stats
Montgomery, Ala. -
Alabama State blew out to a big lead and coasted to a 103-83 win over Jackson State Saturday night.
ASU rolled to a 46-30 halftime advantage behind great shooting (58%), dominant rebounding (24-14) and the inside-outside combination of Jamarr Sanders (13 points) -Chief Kickingstallionsims (11 points).
Although JSU made a couple of runs to pull within seven, the Hornets depth simply was too much as ASU outscored the Tigers 67-12 off the bench.
While some of that was because a couple of players (Richard Lott and Brandon Jones) who normally come off the bench started because it was senior night, it was a young man who has yet to start a single game that turned the most eyes.
Sanders, who redshirted last year after leading his high school team to the state championship, was absolutely brilliant as he scored a career-high 21 points on perfect 8-8 shooting.
Kickingstallionsims also made his presence felt as he scored 21 points - also his career high- and grabbed six rebounds. Brandon Gordon was the third Hornet in double figures scoring with 13 points.
Brandon Brooks had a conference-high 20 assists in the win.
ASU (19-9, 15-3 SWAC) is the top seed in next week's SWAC tournament. The Hornets tipoff postseason action on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
Fond Farewell: Joel Bosh, Brandon Gordon, Brandon Jones and Richard Lott were recognized during Senior Night ceremonies prior to the game.
