Prairie View, Texas -- Dominique Smith scored 31 points, grabbled five rebounds and blocked three shots as the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers dominated Alabama State University 73-38 on Saturday.
The loss dropped ASU's record to 7-12 overall and 4-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Prairie View A&M (10-10, 7-1) outscored the Lady Hornets by as many as 20 points in the first half. The Lady Panthers were in control of the ball on both ends of the court, outrebounding the Lady Hornets 48 to 28.
A Shanice Merritt layup in the first two minutes of play got the Lady Hornets on the scoreboard first, but ASU didn't get another bucket until the 14:45 mark when Jasmine Quinn scored. Missed jumpers and turnovers helped the Lady Panthers build a 10-point lead with 12 minutes on the clock. At the half, the Lady Hornets trailed by 20 points (32-12).
The second half didn't get better for the Lady Hornets as Prairie View outscored ASU 41 to 26.
The Lady Hornets will play Texas Southern (6-12, 4-4) Monday at the H&EP Arena in Houston, Texas. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
