Final Boxscore

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Alabama State University men's basketball team dropped the opening game of its three-game road trip against Tulane Monday night, 82-55.

The Hornets (1-3) struggled offensively in the game as a hot-shooting Green Waves (3-3) squad blistered the nets at a 57 percent clip en route to the win.

Nine different ASU players scored in the game with Tramayne Moorer and Jeffery Middlebrooks leading the way with nine points apiece. Byron Walker helped the Hornets to a 38-29 advantage on the glass pulling down seven rebounds to go along with his eight points.

Tulane's Kris Richard finished with 21 points as the only player to reach double digits. The Green Wave got a balanced offensive attack with all its roster players scoring in the game.

Tulane scored the first seven points of the contest as ASU was slow out of the gate. The Green Wave built a double-digit advantage as the Hornets made just one shot in the first eight minutes of play and also committed six turnovers during the stretch. Alabama State finally found some offense and closed the deficit to just eight points midway through the first half.

However, Richard sparked an 18-2 run with three straight treys as the Hornets slipped behind by 25 points at the half.

The Green Wave maintained control throughout the second half leading by as much as 37 points before a late surge by the Hornets tightened the final margin.

ASU shot just 33 percent for the game and finished with 17 turnovers while forcing just nine by the Green Wave.

Alabama State continues its 1,788 mile week-long road swing Wednesday night at DePaul and then Friday at Evansville.
