SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Alabama State University's Tanika Jackson notched another double-double but poor shooting in the second half left the Lady Hornets with a 45-36 loss to Savannah State Sunday afternoon at Tiger Arena.

It marked the second time this season that Savannah State (7-3) had earned a victory over Alabama State.
For the game, ASU shot just 21.3 percent from the field including making only four of 32 shot attempts in the second half. The poor shooting prevented the Lady Hornets from keeping up with the Tigers and forced them below the 40-point mark for just the first time this year.
In the first half, Savannah State pulled away from the Lady Hornets using a 7-0 run during the first six minutes of play. A layup by Hunter at the 14:30 mark ended the Tiger run and got ASU on the scoreboard.
Minutes later, Erica Henderson drilled a three-pointer to put the Lady Hornets up by one, 10-9. However, Savannah State's Darice Fountaine answered with a trey on her team's ensuing possession allowing the Tigers to regain the lead.
The Tigers pushed ahead by five, 28-23, at the halftime break.
Jackson helped ASU trim its deficit to one early in the second half scoring a bucket and a pair of free throws. The Tigers rallied with a 6-0 run over the next several minutes before a free throw from
Briana Thomas ended the SSU scoring surge.
From that point, ASU went cold from the field and also committed seven turnovers over the final nine minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Savannah went 3-for-3 from the floor and connected on 5-of-6 free throws to build the final nine-point margin of victory.
Crissa Jackson led Savannah State with 15 points and seven rebounds followed by Fountain with nine points. Raven James paced the Tigers in rebounding with 10.
The Lady Hornets have 17 days to regroup before returning to the hardwood against MEAC rival Florida A&M Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. at the ASU Acadome.
