MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Alabama State women's basketball team (2-4) hosts in-state opponent the University of Alabama (4-3) Friday at the ASU Acadome.
This marks the 15th all-time meeting between the two teams with the last meeting coming in 2008 and resulting in a 75-47 victory for the Crimson Tide. ASU's last victory in this in-state battle was an 89-84 decision in 2002.
Friday's game is the 7th time the Lady Hornets will face the Crimson Tide in Montgomery. Alabama leads the all-time series, which began in 1976, 12-4.
The Lady Hornets look to get back on a winning streak after falling short in a few games this season. ASU hopes to avenge a one-point loss to Savannah State University in its last Acadome appearance.
The Crimson Tide looks to bounce back from a loss to Illinois in the championship game of the Holiday Beach Classic in California last week. UA defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 87-79, in its opening tournament game.
Varisia Raffington leads the Crimson Tide with 13.7 points per game. Teammate Tierney Jenkins, who is also averaging double-digits, is scoring 12.3 points per game.
Alabama State is led by
Tanika Jackson with 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Nikel White is adding 7.2 points per game.
The ASU-UA game tips-off at 6 p.m.
