The Alabama State Lady Hornets split a pair of games over the weekend, beating second-ranked Southern University but losing to Alcorn State.

The Lady Hornets extended their winning streak to five games on Saturday with a 51-47 win over Southern in Baton Rouge, La. But on Monday night in Lorman, Miss., the Alcorn State Lady Braves (5-23, 4-11) fought off the Lady Hornets (12-13, 9-5) to claim a 48-35 win.

Against Alcorn State, Shanice Merritt led the Lady Hornets with nine points and six rebounds.  L'Teisha Holloway and Tanika Jackson each added seven points.  Jackson also had six rebounds, one block shot and one steal.

The Lady Hornets will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. as they host the top-ranked women's team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference,  the Prairie View A&M Panthers (16-10, 13-1).

The Department of Admissions will be holding its annual Connection Day event Saturday and the Athletic Department will also be celebrating Senior Night for all of ASU senior basketball players.
