Montgomery – The Alabama State University Hornets held off Prairie View A&M, 64-49, Saturday afternoon in front of 2,900 people in the ASU Acadome during the university's annual Connection Day.
Alabama State, 17-8 overall and 14-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, remained atop the conference standings. Prairie View fell to 13-15 overall and 9-6 in the conference.
ASU was led by
Andrew Hayles with 19 points.
Brandon Brooks scored 17 and
Roland Fitch added 15 points.
ASU dominated the boards the entire game, never letting Prairie View take the lead or tie the game at any point.
Prairie View was led by Darnell Hugee and Alex Richman, who scored nine points apiece. Jacoie Shivers and Chris Jones added six points each.
ASU will host Texas Southern Monday, March 2, at the ASU Acadome. Tip-off time is set for 7:30 p.m.
