HOUSTON -- L'Teisha Holloway's 17 points led Alabama State University to a 51-39 win over Texas Southern Monday night in the H&EP Arena.
The win raised Alabama State's overall record to 8-12 and 5-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern fell to 6-14 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The Lady Hornets raced to an early 12-point lead with 9:32 minutes left in the first half then held on for a 24-11 advantage at halftime.
ASU extended its lead by as many as 22 points in the second half before Texas Southern began to chip away at the lead. With two minutes to play, the Lady Tigers had cut the deficit to eight points.
Tandria Milton added eight points and three steals for the Lady Hornets and Tanika Jackson pulled down 12 rebounds and had seven points.
ASU returns home Saturday, Feb. 7, for a 3 p.m. game against the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
