ASU Outlasts Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Overtime, 75-73

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Chris Duncan hit the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime and Menji Mundadi scored three points in the final minute to help Alabama State down Arkansas-Pine Bluff 75-73 on Monday at the Acadome.

Mundadi finished with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting off the bench for the Hornets (5-10), who improved to 2-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Tramayne Moorer led ASU with 19 points. He was 10-of-15 on free throws.

Tramaine Butler finished with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-12, 2-1 SWAC) tied the game with two late free throws. Terrance Calvin drained a pair with 14 seconds left to make it 67-67. Mundadi missed a 3-pointer that would have won it.

In overtime, Pine Bluff grabbed a two-point lead with two Savalance Townsend free throws, but Moorer tied it with 31/2 minutes left on a jumper.

The Hornets took the lead on their next possession. Duncan's 3-pointer, off an assist from Mundadi, made it 72-69.

With ASU nursing a one-point lead in the final minute, Mundadi hit a layup to make it 74-71. After Pine Bluff answered with a dunk, Mundadi sank a free throw for a 75-73 advantage.

Townsend tried a jumper that could have tied it, but Moorer blocked it to clinch ASU's victory. It was Moorer's only blocked shot of the game.

Duncan totaled five points and nine blocked shots.

Tavaris Washington scored 15 points to lead Pine Bluff. Townsend had 12 and Lebaron Weathers 11. Calvin and Tyree Glass added 10 each.

ASU concludes its current three game home stand against archrival Alabama A&M Saturday at 5 p.m.
