ASU Men Fall at Arkansas State
Jonesboro, AR – The Alabama State Men's basketball team got 11 first half points from Robert Sanders and trailed by 10 at the half, however it wasn't enough as Arkansas State topped the hornets 77-53.
The loss dropped ASU to 1-7 on the season, meanwhile The Redwolves improved to 3-6. After falling behind 29-18 midway through the first half, the Hornets went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to within three. Costly mistakes on defense along with poor second half shooting made it difficult for ASU.
“We were only down by 10 at the half”. Head coach Lewis Jackson said. “We made some errors on defense, shot the ball poorly, we also missed free throws and that quickly got us out of the game”. The Hornets struggled from behind the arc shooting 21.7% on 5-23 for the game.
Sanders led all scorers with 15 points and five rebounds for ASU. He was 7-11 from the free throw line. Jordan Jefferson came off the bench to score 8 points on 4-5 shooting from the field. Jeff Middlebrooks also chipped in 8 points and Ivan Johnson finished with 7 points. Donald Boone led Arkansas State with 14 points including three from downtown.
Alabama State will play a pair of games next week. They're at Mississippi State on Tuesday for a game that starts at 7 pm and they'll host Oakwood College Thursday which is slated for a 6 pm tip-off
