FINAL STATS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State Men's basketball team defeated Albany State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. It was their final pre-conference tune-up before opening SWAC play next week. The final was 61-53.
ASU had three players score in double figures including Tremayne Moorer who led all scorers with 12 points. Moorer who was a first team All-SWAC selection a season ago, made his 2010 debut for the Hornets. Ivory White almost posted his third double-double of the season scoring 11 points and eight rebounds on the night while Ivan Johnson finished with 10 points.
The win snapped a two game losing streak for ASU and gets them ready for next week's conference opener against Jackson State. “As we are preparing for conference play we wanted to go in on a high note”. Head coach Lewis Jackson said. “I thought our guys fought hard tonight but we're still trying to put together a strong, solid 40 minute basketball game”.
With the game tied at six with 14:53 left in the first half, ASU went on a commanding 17-4 run and led 29-18 at halftime. “We stepped up our defense at that point during the game and started to push the ball down the floor which created more baskets for us”. Jackson noted.
The Alabama State men's and women's basketball teams will host a pair of SWAC games next week. Jackson State comes to ASU on Tuesday and Grambling State will visit on Thursday. Both conference games will get underway with the women tipping off at 5:30 pm and the men shortly after at 8 pm.
