PRAIRIE VIEW, Tx. - The Alabama State Men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on the road to Prairie View 69-61. ASU played their first of two games in the state of Texas. The loss dropped The Hornets to 6-15 overall and 3-5 in league play.
The Panthers shot 42% from three point range making seven in the game. ASU trailed 37-26 at the half and managed to cut the lead to five within the last 2:30 of the contest. A short jumper by Trant Simpson extended the lead and PVAM never looked backed.
“The effort our guys are putting forth is really strong” Head coach Lewis Jackson mentioned. “We have got to make baskets and free throws and that is the bottom line”. ASU only shot 15% from three point range. They were 4-26 from behind the arc. In addition, they also shot 60% from the free throw line.
Kenderek Washington led all scorers for The Hornets with 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds on the night. He also made 12 of his 14 free throws. Ivory White scored 11 points including three from downtown. Kaylim Noel came off the bench to score nine points and five rebounds. Tim Meadows led Prairie View with 13 points.
“Noel came off of the bench and played well for us”. Coach Jackson said. “We need to find away to get more points in the paint”. ASU made the trip without Tramayne Moorer who is battling an illness. The Panthers improved to 6-15 overall and 3-5 in The SWAC.
ASU makes the short hike next to take on Texas Southern on Monday. Tipoff from Houston is set for 7:30 pm.
