Women's Basketball to Face Nicholls State

The Alabama State women's basketball team heads to Thibodaux, La. to take on the Colonels of Nicholls State Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Stopher Gym.
 
Alabama State enters Monday's game 0-2 on the season.  They are coming off of a 62-51 loss to Samford University last week.  ASU has not played a game since last Wednesday. 
 
“The girls are eager to play since they have not played in a couple of days,” stated Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  Being on the road is always a challenge for  us as well as playing non-conference games.  Each game is going to be a challenge for us because we have quite a few new players and they are still getting adjusted to the program.”
 
Alabama State is currently led by freshmen Danielle Gazaway and Kierra Paige.  Gazaway has scored 28 points in first her two games and Paige currently has 22 points.  Gazaway is scoring 14 points per game and Paige is at 11.  In the game against Samford Page led the Lady Hornets with 15 points Senior Millicent Jones is holding the center with 15 rebounds on the season. 
 
Nicholls is entering the game 1-1 overall after defeating in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette, where the Colonels downed the Ragin Cajuns 72-64.  Nicholls is led by Sumar Leslie, who is scoring 12.0 points per game she is followed by LiAnn McCarthy who has 11.5 points per game.  KK Babin follows the two with a 10.5 per game.
 
Alabama State currently leads the all-time series 1-0.  The Colonels fell to the Lady Hornets during the 1988-89 season by the score of 81-52.
