Lady Hornets Basketball Welcomes Alabama to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome

The Alabama State women's basketball team will play host to SEC school Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6:00 p.m.  The Lady Hornets are 2-4 overall, while Alabama has a 7-4 overall mark.

“I always look forward to playing Alabama,” stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  “We know that Alabama is a competitive team and that they are big and we are going to have to try to shut them down early.  We are going to have to do our job and play ball on both ends of the court.  We are going to have to finish our ball games in order to get the win.”
 
Danielle Gazaway continues to lead the Alabama State squad in scoring, as she averages 10.8 points per game.  Kierra Paige is also averaging nearly 10 points per game.  Quentori Alford is averaging better than seven points per game as well and Alford also ranks second on the team in rebounds, pulling down an average of 6.3 per game.  Senior point guard Tamara Wadlington has handed out 23 assists in the Lady Hornets six games for a 3.8 assist per game ratio.  Millicent Jones is leading the Lady Hornets in rebounding with 7.7 rebounds per game.
 
Alabama is coming of a Monday night loss to NC State, 79-57 that dropped them to a 7-4 overall record. 
 
Jasmine Robinson leads Alabama in the scoring column, as she is averaging 13.3 points.  Robinson is shooting .405 percent from the field and has a 62.5% from the foul line (30-48).  Ericka Russell and Kyra Crosby both rank second and third on the team with an 11.0 scoring average and Meghan Perkins is averaging just over 10 points per game.
 
As a team, the Roll Tide is averaging 67.0 points per game while shooting 39.7% from the field.  Alabama has been to the free throw line 242 times thus far this season and has converted 141 of those attempts for a .583 percentage.  The Roll Tide is pulling down an average of 39.1 rebounds per game.
 
The series in Saturday evening's match-up between Alabama State and Alabama will be 11-2, since 1986 in the 13th meeting in the history of the two schools.  The Roll Tide won an 80-31 decision over Bama State at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa, AL last season.
