Lady Hornets Unable to Slow Down Lady Jaguars
Baton Rouge, La. - The Alabama State women's basketball team suffered another road loss Saturday afternoon. The Southern Jaguars enter the game as the best team in the SWAC with a 10 game winning streak. The 73-50 loss gave ASU their second in a row.
Despite Southern (16-8), 13-1) making four of their five first half three pointers, ASU (6-18, 3-10) only trailed by nine points at the break. The last time the two teams played the Lady Jags defeated the Lady Hornets at the Acadome 50-41.
Southern opened the second half with a pair of three's quickly extending the lead to 42-25. Baskets were hard to come by for ASU. Through the first seven minutes of the second half, the Lady Hornets were only shooting 31% on the day.
Alabama State committed 17 first half turnovers. They would finish the game with a total of 29. Southern scored 19 points as a result of those errors.
Tamara Waldington led ASU with 12 points and five assist. Quentori Alford, Taila Arrington, and Tanika Jackson all chipped in eight points apiece. Southern was led by Ashley Augerson and Hannah Kador who each scored 15 points on the afternoon.
Next the Lady Hornets will face Alcorn State. The Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm in Lorman, Ms.
