Lady Braves Too Much for Lady Hornets

LORMAN, Ms. – The Alabama State women's basketball team trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half at Alcorn State.  The lady Hornets were able to gather up a run just before halftime leading 35-34.  Kiara Ruffin caught fire for the Lady Braves in the second half giving ASU (6-19, 3-11) their third straight loss 72-67.

The game was tied at 41-41 with 13:55 to play.  Alcorn State (11-13, 10-5 ) then made two three pointers from Ruffin and three more treys beyond the arc  from Carolinsia Crumbly gave the Lady Braves a lead that they would never relinquish.

“We have our back against the wall right now”.  Head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson said.  “The girls really played hard tonight and it is unfortunate that we could not come away with the win”.

Tanika Jackson led ASU with 26 points and 15 rebounds.  Tamara Wadlington scored 13 points and dished out eight assist.  Freshmen Brittney Howard had a career high for the Lady Hornets.  She finished with 10 and 13 boards.  LeEra Lewis also scored in double figures with 11 points.

The Lady Braves were led by Kiara Ruffin's 28 points including five from downtown.  Carolinsia Crumbly scored 18 for Alcorn.  She made three from three point range.

This was a game that featured 20 ASU turnovers.  The game was tied four times and had two lead changes.

ASU returns home to host Prairie View this Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.  Tip-off is at 2 pm.
