ASU Basketball All Set for Senior Night
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University Men's basketball team host Prairie View Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. A pair of ASU seniors in Chris Duncan and Robert Sanders will be honored prior to the tip-off.
ASU (11-16, 8-6) has won its last six out of eight contests, including five straight. However, during that run, one of those two loses came from the Panthers of Prairie View. The Panthers (8-19, 5-9) enter as winners of their last two. Out of their last seven games played, they have dropped four of them. The game is pivotal for Prairie View considering they are holding on to the eighth and final spot for the conference tournament.
The Hornets are only one game out of fourth place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference rankings and is looking to move into one of the top four places for the SWAC Tournament seeding. Fresh from a couple of wins over Southern University and Alcorn State, ASU has won all of their games in the second half of the season. The road trip featured back-to-back road wins for the first time this season.
ASU faces the daunting task of defending one of the league's top scorers for the second consecutive week. Prairie View's Trant Simpson is currently ranked fifth in the SWAC in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. Simpson scored 11 points in the first meeting.
Alabama State has it made hard on their opponents on defense. They held Alcorn State to only 27.9 percent shooting and they continue to be ranked second in the conference in field goal percentage shooting. ASU is also third in the conference in scoring defense.
Tip-off at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday for Senior Night against Prairie View is slated for 5:30 pm.
