FINAL STATS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Arkansas Pine-Bluff jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead over Alabama State in the first half. But led by Tanika Jackson and Millicent Jones' 15 points each, the Lady Hornets were able to prevail in the end 58-49.
ASU (5-16, 2-8) got a career high out of Jones while Jackson completed a double-double with 14 rebounds. Laquisha Slaton scored 13 points to lead the way for Pine-Bluff who fell to (1-20, 1-9) on the season.
The Lady Hornets slowly pulled away in the second half but a fade-away by Jackson with 1:55 left in the game put ASU up 54-46 which pretty much sealed the deal. The victory ended a six game losing streak for the Lady Hornets.
“Hopefully we can use this game as a confident booster”. Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson stated. “We were down early in this game and our ladies kept fighting”. Coach Jackson said.
ASU got terrific guard play out of Tama Wadlington. She produced 14 points of her own to go along with 8 assists. It was the best shooting performance of the conference season of the Lady Hornets. They made 40% of their shots and out rebounded UAPB 56-37.
“We now have started the second half of the season”. Coach Jackson mentioned. If we want to turn this season around we must win at home.”
The Lady Hornets will return home Monday hosting Mississippi Valley State which is “Black Out” night. Tip-off from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome is set for 3:00 pm.
