Lady Hornets Streak Snapped at Grambling

Grambling, La. -- With a spot already secured in next week's Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament, the Alabama State women's basketball team fell at Grambling State for a final of 64-58.    

Earlier this week, ASU came away with a must win victory at Jackson State to claim the eighth and final spot in the league's tournament.  Tonight's game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Arena was the final regular season contest for both teams.

ASU (8-21, 5-13) entered the game riding a two game winning streak, but trailed GSU (13-14, 10-8) 26-23 at the break despite only shooting 29 percent from the field.  The lady Tigers made 40 percent of its attempts in the first 20 minutes of play.   

Turnovers overwhelmed the lady Hornets as they committed 14 in the first half and finished with a total of 28, sixteen of those turnovers were steals from GSU. 

ASU only saw two of its players score in double figures.  Tanika Jackson led the lady Hornets with 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Tamara Wadlington scored 11 points to go along with 3 assist and 2 steals.  Brittany Howard and Millicent Jones both chipped in six points apiece.

Grambling was led by 19 points from Rachele Dobbins.  Secrett Anderson also scored 14 points for GSU.

The lady Hornets will draw number one seeded Southern University in the first round of the SWAC tournament Wednesday.  Tip-off from Garland, Texas at the Special Events Center is slated for 5:30 pm.
