Women's Basketball Set To Host Arkansas-Pine Bluff

The Alabama State women's basketball team completed a short practice Sunday evening as they prepared for their match-up against the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday evening at 5:30.

“When playing conference games it's always tough,” said Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  “Every game has to be played solid and we are going to have to just play our game.  Defense is always going to be our main focus.  We know we can make the baskets we just have to defend the ball.”

The Lady Hornets are coming off two SWAC wins this past week.  The first against Jackson State in Jackson, Miss. and the second coming in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome edging by Mississippi Valley 65-62.  The Lady Hornets improved to a 4-7 overall record and 2-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Arkansas Pine Bluff will be finishing its round of the Alabama swing when they come into the Dunn-Oliver Acadome and face the Lady Hornets.  The Lady Lions are coming off of a 64-44 loss to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.  Arkansas Pine Bluff will be entering Monday's contest with a 0-13 overall mark and 0-2 SWAC record.

“Arkansas Pine Bluff play hard and they are not going to be an easy team to beat, said Freeman-Jackson.  “Records don't mean anything in conference play.  They are going to come in here and play their game and our task will be to play ours.  They are a young team, but so are we, we make mistakes and so do they, we just can't afford to slip up.  Pine Bluff will do whatever they can to get the win.  They are fast and quick just like most of our conference opponents, like I stated before, we have to play defense to win.”
