The Alabama State women's basketball team will complete its Texas swing and final regular season road trip when they face Prairie View on Monday night at the William Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Hornets are coming off of a three game win streak with their last 52-51 win coming over the Texas Southern Tigers in the H&PE Arena Saturday afternoon.
Quentori Alford led the Lady Hornets in scoring and rebounding against the Tigers. Alford is averaging 7.6 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per contest.
Alabama State will enter into Monday's match-up 12-12 overall and 9-6 in the league. Prairie View enters the contest 11-15 overall and 8-7 in the SWAC. The Panthers are coming off of a 61-49 loss to Alabama A&M on Prairie View's home court.
As a team Alabama State is averaging 55.2 points per contest. They are currently leading the conference in defensive rebounding averaging 24.9 rebounds per game.
“We are going to have to play Prairie View a lot better than we played against Texas Southern,” said Assistant Coach
Clayton Harris. “The bottom line is that we are going to have to come out with a win. It's really hard to get a win on the road sometimes, we were just lucky to do just that last night. We are going to just have to play a total game tomorrow. We are leading in defensive rebounding in the conference so we will have to stay focused and continue to play defense.
Prairie View is led by Kiara Etienne who is averaging 14.9 points per game, teammate and leading rebounder Latia Williams is averaging 12.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds.
“Prairie View has a lot of really good players they are not that big but they have good personnel to play with. They have players that can shoot the three and play the perimeter really good. We are going to have to continue to play hard and play our game. Rebounding will be the key to us winning as well as us playing defense.
