The Alabama State women's basketball team (8-15, 6-6 SWAC) will face Southwestern Athletic foe Southern University (11-13, 10-3 SWAC) Saturday, February 16 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.  The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

Taila Arrington led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 19 points in the 73-66 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs last Saturday.  Arrington knocked down her first season and career game high.

Danielle Gazaway added in 14 points apiece in the win.  Gazaway has hit her sixth double figure game on the year. 
 
Quentori Alford has a team-best of 9.3 points per game average, while averaging 9.8 rebounds per contest.  The junior center is leading the league in rebounding and in block shots with 40 averaging 2.1 per game.
 
Southern sits a top of the league behind Texas Southern in the SWAC.  Kendra Coleman of the Jaguars is currently leading the team in scoring averaging 11.2 points per game.  Lechelle Rush leads the team in rebounding averaging 7.0 rebounds. 
 
Saturday's game between the Southern Jags and Alabama State Lady Hornets marks the 66
th meeting between the two schools.  The Lady Hornets lost the contest earlier in the season 57-44 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. 
 
“This is always a hard contest for us,” said head coach 
Freda Freeman-Jackson.  “We are coming off of a win and I hope that the momentum can continue through these next few games.  We only can take one game at a time, but we have to stay focused and on task.  When we played Southern at our house we competed almost all the way to the end and it seemed as though we gave up.  We must finish in order to get the win.”
