The Lady Hornets basketball team is set to face the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M in a SWAC match-up on SWAC Digital Network at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday with tip-off starting at 3 p.m.
Catch the game live on the airways on WVAS (90.7 FM) or viewed by live stats both can be accessed on
www.bamastatesports.com or game day central.
The match-up tomorrow will represent the headliner game of the year. Each time these two teams face each other it produces a crowd of enthusiasm. The last time the Lady Hornets and the Bulldogs met ASU defeated Alabama A&M in overtime action 69-67 in the T.M. Elmore gym in Normal, Ala.
“This is always a tough game for us,” said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. “It seems as though every time we play Alabama A&M they bring their “A” game. We are at home and we need to make sure that we play our game. We went to their house and we beat them in over time. We plan on doing what we need to do to maintain this game and our momentum to get the win.”
Both teams will be looking to improve their records with the match-up. The Lady Hornets will enter the contest with a 7-15 overall record and 5-6 in conference play, while the Bulldogs will come into the game with a 7-14 overall record and a 6-5 in the SWAC.
“Alabama A&M has been playing well right now,” Freeman-Jackson said. “We have been playing ok ourselves but we just need to play two halves and make sure we are playing defense and take care of the ball.”
Saturday will mark the 44
th meeting between the two teams. Alabama A&M leads the series 23-20, but since the Freda Freeman era ASU holds a slight 14-9 lead against Altherias Warmley and her Bulldogs.
“Like I said every time we play Alabama A&M it's always competitive,” Freeman-Jackson said. “We have to come in tomorrow and stay focused. We know it's going to be a big crowd and our families and friends will all be here, I just would like for us to do well and play our game. I always say offense wins games, and defense wins championships and that's the direction we are trying to go in.”
