After being at home the last two weeks the Alabama State women's basketball team head to Mississippi to face the Lady Braves of Alcorn State on Saturday, January 25 at the Davey L. Whitney Gymnasium at 3 p.m.

Alabama State will enter the contest 9-7 overall, and 2-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Lady Hornets are coming off a victory last Saturday over state-raval Alabama A&M 92-45.

The Lady Braves will enter tomorrows contest with a 2-15 overall record and 1-5 in conference play. Alcorn State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 64-58 in their last game.Â

"This like all games is important," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson.   "We need to come into tomorrow's game focused and ready to play defense. We know the buckets will fall, but we have to stay focused on both ends of the court."

Alcorn State leads the all-time series between the two schools 48-22. The last time the Lady Hornets and the Braves met in Montgomery at the Dome where Alabama State won 60-53. Â

Quentori Alford leads the Lady Hornets in scoring averaging 9.1 ppg and in rebounding 9.9 rebounds per contest.Â

The Lady Braves are led in scoring by Tierro Frost averaging 18 ppg, while Angelic Wilson-Reid leads Alcorn State in rebounding averaging 6.2 rebounds a game.

"Alcorn State is a good solid team," said Freeman-Jackson. "They play hard and they are quick. Alcorn's Frost (Tierro) is a good player, she's their leading scorer and we need to be able to contain her. There are other players that are good also so we will just have to take a defensive stance and play our game."
