The Alabama State women's basketball team found themselves having to go back to the basic fundamentals after a tough 60-44 loss to Southern University Monday night in Baton Rouge.  The Lady Hornets have had to restructure themselves in practice working on detailed fundamentals that will lead to a winning success.

"Playing on the road is always tough," said head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "I am glad to be back at home on our own court.  Sometimes it's not easy winning at home, but at least we are playing in front of our fans.  This week gave us an opportunity to work on basic fundamentals in order to prepare for our game against Prairie View.  We know that they play tough and hard and we will have to do the same thing if we want to get the win.  We have to make sure that we keep control of the ball.  We are trying to teach our guards to be on the ball (getting in for the rebounds) and don't allow a second chance for penetration.

Scoring and rebounding for the Lady Hornets is led by senior Quentori Alford, who is averaging 8.6 ppg and 9.8 rebounds per contest, while freshman Brittney Wright is next on the team in scoring averaging 7.8 ppg.  She also averages 6.3 rebounds per game.

The Lady Panthers are led in scoring by junior guard Jeanette Jackson, who is averaging 18.1 ppg and rebounding 3.8 rpg.

The game will feature first year head coach Dawn Brown of Prairie View against the 16th season veteran Freda Freeman Jackson.  The Lady Hornets have a 37-25 series advantage over the Lady Panthers.  Since the Freeman-Jackson era Prairie View leads the series 20-14.  The last time Alabama State defeated Prairie View was during the 2011-12 season when the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Panthers in Prairie View, Texas on their home court 67-53.
