Alabama State (7-5, 0-1 SWAC) was led in scoring by freshman Britney Wright and junior
Danielle Gazaway with 10 points apiece. Three players led on the boards with eight rebounds each, Wright, senior
Quentori Alford and junior
Kierra Paige. Alford also had eight points to add to her boards.

Grambling State (4-8, 1-0 SWAC), had three players in double figures, Dennisha Chambers and Joanna Miller had 15 each and Victoya Ricks added 12 points and seven rebounds to the win.

The Lady Hornets out-rebounded the Tigers 58-47, while shooting 35.4 from the field. Â

"Although we out-rebounded them (Grambling)," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "We still didn't do a good job defending the ball like we should have. We had a lot of opportunities, but didn't take advantage of them like we should have. We will have to get ready for our next challenge against Jackson State on Monday."

The Lady Hornets will return to the court Monday as they play Jackson State at 5:30 p.m. at the Lee Williams Arena in Jackson, Miss.
