Lady Hornets Basketball To Face AAMU Bulldogs

The Alabama State women's basketball team is set to face the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M in a SWAC match-up Saturday, February 15, for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

Fans can catch the game live on the airways on WVAS (90.7 FM) or viewed by live stats both can be accessed on www.bamastatesports.com or game day central.  You can also find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The last time the Lady Hornets and the Bulldogs met ASU defeated Alabama A&M 92-45 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.

"When playing this game it's not about records it's about rivalry," said head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "It's about pageantry and who wins or losses.  We played Alabama A&M well at our house, but the table can always turn when you are on the road.  We just need to stay focused and play our game to the best of our ability."

Both teams will be looking to improve their records with the match-up.  The Lady Hornets will enter the contest with a 10-11 overall record and 3-7 in conference play, while the Bulldogs will come into the game with a 3-18 overall record and a 1-10 in the SWAC.

"Alabama A&M has not been playing well, so I know that they are hungry for a win," Freeman-Jackson said.  "We have been playing ok but we just need to play two halves and make sure we are playing defense and take care of the ball."

Saturday will mark the 46th meeting between the two teams.  Alabama A&M holds a slim 23-22 overall series, but since the Freda Freeman era ASU holds a 15-9 lead against the Bulldogs.

"Like I said every time we play Alabama A&M it's always competitive," Freeman-Jackson said.  "We have to come in tomorrow and stay focused.  We know it's going to be a big crowd and our families and friends will all be here, I just would like for us to do well and play our game.  I always say offense wins games, and defense wins championships and that's the direction we are trying to go in."
