Now on a four game win streak the Alabama State University women's basketball team is set to face the now top seed of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Texas Southern at the HP&E Arena, in Houston Texas.  The game is slated for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.  
                                     
The Lady Hornets (13-12, 6-8 SWAC) are coming off a 73-63 win over Southern, at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night. Texas Southern will enter Saturday's contest 16-9, 13-1 SWAC after defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 67-64 at Pine Bluff previously in the week. 
 
Alabama State holds a 43-23 series advantage all-time, losing in overtime 83-74 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome earlier in the season.
 
"We played hard against Texas Southern, but we lost focus once we went into overtime," stated head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "This time we need to stay focused and play our game.  I always tell the girls don't take anything for granted you must always stay focused and play defense."
 
Leading scorer Nakiya Smith is averaging 12.1 points per game, while teammate freshman Brittney Wright has been a force to reckon with averaging 9.0 and 6.4 rebounds ppg.  Quentori Alford still leads the Lady Hornets on the boards averaging 8.6 rpg.  and the third leading scorer on the team averaging 7.5 ppg.
 
The Lady Tigers are on a 12 game win streak and has the top player in the conference in scoring by Jazzmin Parker who is averaging 19.5 ppg.  She is followed by teammate Brianna Sidney which is averaging 12.7 ppg.  The team is led in rebounding by Morgan Simmons with 8.8 rebounds pg one rebound ahead of Alford (215).


"Texas Southern is the type team that plays aggressive and doesn't give up very easily," Freeman-Jackson said.  "We in turn need to do the same thing and play together to get the win."
