18 points against ElonELON, N.C. – Elon University's first three shots were three point field goals and they hit all three and never let up as Alabama State fell to Elon 91-74.Â
"You have to give it to them they shot the ball very well tonight," Head Coach
Lewis Jackson said.

For the game Elon hit 30 field goals and 18 of them were three point field goals. Every time ASU would get close Elon would hit another three and keep ASU out of reach.

Elon held a 23-point lead (53-30) in the second half and the Hornets started getting back in the game and cut the lead to 75-65 with 5:27 left in the game and Elon proceeded to hit two consecutive threes to push the lead back out to 16 and that would be as close as ASU would get.

Corvon Butler led the Hornets with a career-high 18 points. Three other Hornets hit double digits with
Jamel Waters scoring 13;
Steve Rogers added 11 and
Tony Armstrong, seeing his first action of the season, finished with 12.

ASU shot 51 percent in the second half and finished shooting 42 for the game. Butler had a game and career-high 13 rebounds as ASU finished with 44. Waters had five assists and a game-high three steals.

Tanner Samson led Elon with 22 points with 18 of those coming on six three pointers. Luke Eddy had 18 while Christian Hairston had 15.

"We still have a ways to go on defense," Jackson said. "We are not playing the type of defense we are going to need to play to win many games."

Elon came out on fire to start the game hitting their first six shots and five of those were three point field goals. While Elon cooled off to shoot 43 percent in the opening 20 minutes their eight three pointers kept ASU at bay in a 45-30 halftime lead.

Samson hit his first shots, all threes and had 13 first half points. Hairston added 11.

ASU, who trailed by as much as many as 22 (26-4), was able to cut into the lead and actually got it down to 14.Â
Corvon Butler had eight first half points as ASU only shot 33 percent from the field.

The Hornets will continue this present road trip with a game at Coastal Carolina, Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1 p.m.
