Hornets Finally at Home; Host AUM

MONTGOMERY – After opening the 2015-16 men's basketball season with six consecutive games on the road, the Alabama State Hornets will finally be home when they host Auburn Montgomery Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m.

AUM comes into the game with a 7-2 record and will provide a huge challenge to the Hornets who enter the game with a 2-4 record and coming off a Tuesday loss at Evansville.

"Coach (Michael) Cheney is doing a great job over there," Head Coach Lewis Jackson said.  "They come in here with a lot of wins and you can tell watching them on film how well coached they are."

"They have a 6'-8" player who is a really good player.  He will tough to stop.  They also have quick guards that like to get the ball up the court at a quick pace.  We will really need to be prepared for the game."

Phillip Rankin averages over 21 points per game for the Warhawks and is shooting 64 percent from the field.  Reagan Eubanks (12.6) and Desmond DeRamus (10.0) is also scoring in double digits.

Rankin averages a double-double for AUM with a team-leading 11.2 rebounds per game.  DeRamus is the team's leading assist player with 58 assists.

The Hornets continue to look for their shooting touch.  As a team ASU is only shooting 36 percent from the field while the opposition is shooting 53 percent, a number that is hard for the ASU coaching staff to look at.

"We hang our hat on defense," Jackson said.  "Right now we are not getting it done on the defensive end of the court.  We give up way to many open looks and way to many lay ups.

Jamel Waters leads the team with a 14.8 points per game average.  He enters the game the 25th leading scorer in ASU history.  Joining Waters in averaging double digits is newcomer Torloft Thomas averaging 11.5 points per game.

Bobby Brown averages 9.8 points and along with Corvon Butler lead the Hornets in rebounding averaging 4.3 per outing.

Tomorrow's game can be heard live on bamastatesports.com and 100.5 FM.  The game will be the second game of a double header as the Lady Hornets will host South Alabama at 6 p.m.
