MACON, Ga. – Mercer swept the Alabama State softball team in a nonconference match up with a 15-2 win in five innings in game one and 11-2 in six innings in game two on Tuesday at Sikes Field.Â

ASU (6-21) kept it close with the Bears midway through game one and showed improvement in game two.Â

The Lady Hornets trailed 3-1 through three and a half innings in game one and then trailed 4-2 through five and a half innings in game two before the games were decided.Â

In game one, seven ASU players had a hit. Junior
Alexis Johnson hit her fifth home run of the season while
Laura Aguilar tripled and
Jenna Mae Thorne doubled to each have an extra base hit in the game.Â
Â
In game two, Thorne batted 3-for-3 with a walk, a triple, a run and a RBI. Johnson went 2-for-3 with a walk while
Kendall Core was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

ASU will next travel to Longview, Texas, to take part in the SWAC Round-Up for the first conference games of the season.Â

The five-game weekend series begins Friday against Southern at 4 p.m.
