Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season On the Road

The Lady Hornets are two games away from closing out its regular season, and hit the road heading to Ruston, La., in order to face the Grambling State Lady Tigers on Thursday, March 5.  Then, they will travel over to Jackson to face the JSU Lady Tigers for a Saturday match up.
 
The first of the two-game road trip will see Alabama State face the number seven team in the standings, Grambling State, which will enter the contest 9-18 overall and 6-10 in the conference.  The Lady Tigers faced Mississippi Valley in its last outing falling 61-58 at the Civic Center in Greenwood, Miss.
 
Alabama State defeated Grambling earlier in the season (53-30) at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.  ASU currently sits in the four spot of the standings with an overall record of 13-13 and 9-7 in conference play.
 
The Lady Hornets are ranked at the top in several different categories; (2) scoring defense (60.5), (3) scoring margin (+0.2), (1) field goal percentage defense (.358), (1) 3-point fg. pct. (.310), (1) 3-point fg pct. defense (.227), (1) rebounding offense (43.5), (3) rebounding margin (+2.4), (1) blocked shots (5.0), (3) assists (11.7), (1) defensive rebounds (29.3),  and (1) 3-point fg made (4.7).

As a team, Grambling State averages 55.4 points per game.  They are led in scoring by junior Yosha Watson, who is averaging 12.4 ppg.  Monisha Neal leads the charge on the boards averaging 4.8 rebounds per game.
 
"We know that Grambling is a tough team and it doesn't matter what their record says," said head women's basketball coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "They are the type of team that won't bow down and if you give them any lead way, they will take it."
 
The Lady Hornets and Grambling will face off at 5:30 tomorrow night.
